Celebration of Life for Susan Mawson
Susan Mawson lived life with an unflinching optimism. She was someone who took the bad with the good and found the best way to move forward with both. No matter what hand she was dealt, she played it with the same determined, pragmatic lightness. When diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021, even this couldn’t change her. When the world dealt her a particularly cruel hand, she stubbornly refused to respond in kind. Somehow, she found the best way to take the bad with the good.
She kept thinking of others with a relentless dedication, never once forgetting to send love out to where it was needed. She never stopped seeing the good in others, even if they couldn’t see it in themselves. Susan always firmly upheld the principle that there is good in everyone. Now more than ever, we have a lot to learn from her.
Throughout all of this, somehow, Susan remained an endless source of love and comfort to her friends and family. This is someone worth celebrating.
This is the purpose of our gathering on the 20th of July – to celebrate these aspects of Susan and further their legacy. The heartbreaking news that is Susan’s passing has a blinding silver lining; it has brought her friends and family closer together than ever before. The rekindled connections and unwavering support our family has seen over the past several weeks has been nothing short of incredible. Even in death, mum is finding ways to keep us all in touch.
