Donald Joseph Poland 12.03.1932 – 05.05.2025  Aged 93

Died whilst in the safe care of Weavers Court Rawdon.

Survived by his wife Shirley of 70 years, daughter Maura Brown, son Shaun Poland. His sister Maura Shockley, step-sister Paddy Sullivan, step-brothers Laurence & Vincent Poland. Grandsons & Great Grandsons.

Requiem Mass & Service on Friday June 6th at 2.30pm at SS Peter & Pauls Catholic Church, New Road, Yeadon, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS19 7HW.

Donations to Alzheimer’s Society welcome.

He was born in Cornfield near Ballinasloe, Co Galway. Eire. Brought up by his grandma due to the untimely death of his mother and came over to England in his teens to join the RAF as an engineer.

He met and married Shirley and joined the police force where he worked in the West Yorkshire Constabulary until retirement, achieving the rank of Chief Inspector.

Their catholic religion was important to both Don and Shirley and they dedicated time to charity work through the church. They also thoroughly enjoyed golf, becoming presidents of the local club at Rawdon. They travelled to many countries around the world playing golf, doing charity work and just for holidays.

Shirley has lost her life partner, and he will be missed by us all.
