Peer Bereavement Support Groups
Ruth is one of our Funeral Directors at our Guiseley service and also leads our peer bereavement support group. Ruth has written a piece for our blog about her experience of starting and running a peer support group, and about the power in seeking support from people that have been through something similar. You can read How to set up a peer bereavement support group here.
Our Guiseley team has a new member!
A Guiseley local, Gemma has recently joined our team of Funeral Directors and will be supporting families alongside Ruth at our Guiseley funeral service. Prior to beginning her career in funeral care Gemma worked as a vet’s secretary and librarian, as well as running her own fine art photography business.
We’re so very pleased to have you Gemma, welcome to the team.
Caring For Life offers plant discount for people after bereavement
We are delighted to have partnered with Leeds charity and garden centre Caring for Life to offer people who have been bereaved a discount on plants and flowers for their home or garden.
All of us at Full Circle Funerals are passionate advocates of the positive impact of nature on wellbeing. Our physical surroundings have an effect on how we feel and something as simple as a houseplant or vase of flowers can help us feel more connected to the natural world, which instinctively lifts our mood. You can read more about the Design for Wellbeing philosophy and how to bring nature into your home over on our blog.
Plants add colour, texture and calm to indoor spaces and they also help to filter the air. Houseplants in particular have seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years and have become integral to interior design schemes, adding style as well as making us feel fantastic.
Caring for Life has been incredibly enthusiastic about our idea of a voucher, which we will now be offering to the bereaved people we support.
The charity is there for people who face hard times and offers support and a home for as long as is needed to help them towards a safe and more settled way of life. Their holistic approach aligns perfectly with our own modern approach to funeral care and bereavement support.
We would like to say a huge thank you to the garden centre team for embracing our idea and for becoming our first garden centre partner.
We hope to eventually have partner garden centres close to each of our services. Watch this space!
Full Circle Campaign Raises £2,000 for Victims of Domestic Violence
We are thrilled that an appeal launched by our team in Halifax has raised £2,000 for Calderdale WomenCentre.
We decided to approach local businesses and our contacts back in January after hearing that the charity needed practical items to see victims of domestic violence through their first few days away from home.
It started with a goal to provide 20 backpacks filled with supplies at a cost of £20 each. Within weeks we’d reached our £400 target and the donations kept coming.
In the end it took just over a month to raise £2,000 which will provide 100 backpacks and make a huge difference to women and families arriving with nothing other than the clothes they stand in.
We have been completely overwhelmed by the response and would like to say a huge thank you to all the individuals, celebrants, therapists, counsellors and local businesses who have supported us. It is an incredible achievement by all those who contributed.
The pressure on services like Calderdale WomenCentre has never been greater and a few basic necessities in those first few hours and days away from home make all the difference.
Donations came from individuals, celebrants and local businesses including Yorkshire Payments, LCF Law, Chadwick Lawrence, The Private Office, Wild & Co Chartered Accountants, Propelify Ltd, Jigsaw Print, Pabasso, Dead Good Wills, Guardian Angel, Mindful Memorials, Alpaca Professional Services, Suzanne Gamache Healing, Counsellor Eve Elliott-Pearson, acupuncturist Jane Wood and Andy Ellis of Sheavyn Associates.
The backpacks have been delivered and will be handed to women and families arriving at the centre this year.
David joins our Harrogate service
We have recently welcomed David who has joined Full Circle’s Harrogate service as a Funeral Director. David has spent a large portion of his professional life performing and writing music, as well as sharing his enthusiasm for the art with younger people. Full Circle’s ethos of improving the wellbeing of every bereaved individual struck a chord with David; as well as supporting individuals in the capacity of Funeral Director David will also be helping our Music for Wellbeing effort.
“Funerals Your Way” book proceeds to support Swansong project!

Spreading the word about design for wellbeing
How we think and feel is, to an extent, a reflection of our physical environment. Arranging a funeral can be an incredibly difficult experience which is why Sarah put so much thought into designing the interiors of our services. Recently Sarah spoke to the Yorkshire Post about her interior work and about biophilia, the philosophy behind the creativity.
Sarah’s also written a short blog post about some of the principles she keeps in mind when considering how to create a calming atmosphere in our funeral services.
If you’d like to see some of these principles in action you can see various examples on our services; in Halifax we’ve a wonderful tree ring feature piece which hangs in the foyer and Harrogate is home to an organic privacy feature made of repurposed tree stumps. There are many more examples on our service pages – please feel free to have a look around.
